Welcome back to the CORPSE CASTLE DEMO v0.0.013


I hope everyone has been staying safe out there. We are back with a ton of MASSIVE new updates, I am not even sure where to begin.

We’ll start big

UNLOCKABLE CHARACTERS

I have added 3 new SECRET UNLOCKABLE PLAYABLE CHARACTERS to the demo.

As “Dregs” the 3 starting characters are small and weak but immensely fast. These new characters wear more advanced forms making them bigger and a little slower but much more powerful!

Ash The Sun Knight

The easiest of the characters to unlock. Just go to the “Garden of Pestilence” and earn a GOLD MEDAL in a RITUAL DUEL against Ash to add him to your roster.

Blood Healing - Ash & Sara use a new form of healing in this update

  • Ash has NO HEALING ATTACKS and instead relies on POTENT HEALING BLOOD freshly drawn from enemies by certain attacks. Bathe in the blood of your enemies to heal (look for blood with a green highlight).


Sara ‘El the Sun Priestess

A powerful Hand-to-Hand Combatant and Sangromancer. Complete the second floor of the TOWER OF REBIRTH, which Sara guards herself, with a GOLD MEDAL to unlock the Sun Priestess in the character menu.



The Blight Witch

The hardest character to unlock and arguably use, despite her IMMENSE power. In the “GARDEN OF PESTILENCE” when it comes time to sacrifice yourself to the MATRIARCH, if you can manage to instead best her in combat you will unlock her as THE BLIGHT WITCH on the character menu.

There’s a lot to cover so I will make appendices to elaborate more on the characters and scoring systems at the bottom of the page.



SCORING & MEDALS

You are now graded competitively on your capability in combat and awarded medals in each level accordingly. You will notice a letter grade next to your portrait on the HUD.

Performing exceptional combos and fighting in a stylistic manner will increase your letter grade while avoiding combat or getting hit with a combo will decrease it.


Maintaining an ‘A’ average during a level can earn you a GOLD MEDAL whereas a ‘C’ or lower average will yield a BRONZE MEDAL.

GOLD MEDALS can unlock secret characters and areas with some levels even having SECRET BONUS OBJECTIVES!


IMPROVED AI

Among other technical updates that I will cover more at the bottom of the page, I have dramatically improved the enemy AI.

By analyzing player footage and PvP tactics I have figured out how to create more closely “Player Approximated” enemy behaviors. This allows for greater “differences-in-kind” of difficulty and creates combat that is more challenging than it is difficult.

That covers the basics but I am including appendices which break down the new character statistics/moves/strategies in the next section as well as covering the grading metrics used in the scoring and medal systems. 



APPENDICES

APPENDIX A - CHARACTER INFORMATION

- Ash the Sun Knight

Information:

A highly versatile combatant, he is missing a hand but Ash uses the cleaver he's replaced it with to deal insane amounts of damage at close range.

His Javelins can be placed around the floor as deadly traps, combine this with powerful Blood Magic to quickly coat the stage in healing blood and come out of skirmishes with more health than you went in with.

Attacks:

LIGHT ATTACK - TAKE MY HAND

Slash enemies hard with your cleaver hand dealing massive damage. This attack is dependent on the position and angle of your Cleaver-Hand
HEAVY ATTACK - BLOOD HARVEST

Create a sickle using Blood Magic and RIP YOUR ENEMIES OPEN! This attack causes fresh healing blood to pour out into the stage. Collect it to regain health.
RANGED ATTACK - OMNI-SPEAR

Throw a giant spear at enemies that becomes a trap if stuck in the ground. The back of the spear is a trident that will rip healing blood from enemies if they collide with it.
 



- Sara 'El, The Sun Priestess

Information:

A lightweight fast moving combatant. Highly trained in Martial Arts and CQC she utilizes hand to hand combat better than some characters use weapons and magic. 

Use these skill in combination with Sara's myriad of ritual tools and magic to rapidly exsanguinate enemies and claim their blood for yourself.

Attacks:

LIGHT ATTACK - PRAYING STRIKES

Utilizing a combination of prayer and martial arts, Sara rapidly pummels enemies with her fists, stealing small amounts of health.
HEAVY ATTACK - BLOOD MACE

Creates a ritual mace formed of Blood Magic. Use it to smash enemy body cavities open and reap the hot, liquid rewards.
RANGED ATTACK - RITUAL BLADE

Throw a Ritual Blood Mace at enemies with immense force, restoring a small amount of health and generating blood.

Maces in the ground will become traps that draw large amounts of Healing Blood    



 - THE BLIGHT WITCH

Information:

A massive chimera with unfathomable power. Her sprawling limbs make her an easy target for smaller, more agile enemies. Extreme bodily control is required for mastery.

Use the immense destructive capability of her shape-shifting arms combined with an overwhelming physique to subjugate those beneath you and tear them to shreds.

Attacks:

LIGHT ATTACK - MANTIS PALM

 The Blight Witch can transform her arms into MASSIVE raptorial pincers capable of performing repeated strikes rapidly.
HEAVY ATTACK - HARVEST LIFE

Creates a ritual scythe that deals massive damage and steals a decent amount of enemy health. It does not create healing blood however.
RANGED ATTACK - ARCHIMEDES SYRINGE

Launch a slow moving, Blood Magic-based projectile that is capable of stealing small amounts of enemy health across large distances.


APPENDIX B - EARNING MEDALS

As stated earlier, players can now earn medals on each stage and game mode. During combat you are constantly being graded for the stylistic and strategic decisions you are making and the metric for earning medals is dependent on this grade.

I will now go into some of the internals for these systems.

Grade Considerations

POSITIVE

  • There is currently an internal combo meter in game. Raising it helps increase your Grade quickly.
  • Knocking enemies into Environmental Hazards has a powerful contribution to your Grade and combo.
    • Besides pre-existing Traps, this also includes Traps that you set yourself, and Environmental Enemies like the Centipedes in the "Feeding Ritual"
  • Landing attacks on enemies helps to raise your Grade.
    • Repeatedly using the same attack has a low contribution to your Grade.
    • Using many different attacks in rapid succession increases your Grade very quickly.
  • Landing HEALTH STEALING attacks on enemies contributes a decent amount to your GRADE.
  • Killing enemies raises your Grade a considerable amount.
  • Blocking incoming enemy attacks positively contributes to your Grade.
    • Performing a "Perfect Block" will raise your Grade significantly.
      • A "Perfect Block" is performed when a player presses the block button at the exact moment an enemy attack lands. This also fully restores the blocking players health.

NEGATIVE

  • Being hit by enemies reduces your Grade.
  • Being combo'd by enemies or traps reduces your Grade very quickly.
  • Being killed MASSIVELY decreases your Grade.
  • Avoiding combat slowly decreases your Grade
Medal Metrics

After completing a level an average of your current Grade at any given moment during the level is calculated. Based on this average you are then awarded a corresponding Medal.


GOLD MEDAL

Maintain a 'A' Grade average for at least 80% of the level in order to qualify for GOLD

SILVER MEDAL

Maintain a 'B' Grade average or higher for at least 60% of the level in order to qualify for SILVER

BRONZE MEDAL

As long as you manage to complete a level alive, you will qualify for BRONZE
